Simply stated, our kwon - Chung Tong Yudo - does not like
to do this.
It will do so, however, on a case-by-case basis, in order
to:
- honor those individuals who participated in the
development and transmission of our heritage in the traditional Korean martial
arts, and especially our own lineage;
- to meet and fulfill our fraternal obligations to our
fellow Korean kwons; and,
- to meet the needs of qualified individuals who, by reason
of geography or individual situation, are unable to apply through our
organization in Korea or through a national Yudo association.
Requests may be sent, in English, to the International Yudo
Federation (Go to: "Who do I contact for further information?") for forwarding.
The following information should be contained in the letter:
a. Date of birth;
b. Nationality;
c. Full name;
d. The reason that
you are requesting a rank certificate directly.
The following items should be enclosed with your letter.
a. Your martial
arts resume.
b. Your curriculum
vitae (personal and professional resume).
c. Copies of all
black belt level rank certificates previously issued by any martial art
organization.
d. Four color
passport photographs.
e. Nonrefundable
application fee of $100.00USD.
Applicants for Chung Tong Yudo rank should bear the
following in mind:
a. Two types of certificates are issued, a certificate of
rank and a certificate of recognition. A certificate of rank issued in this
manner is essentially a first promotion in ChungTongKwan Yudo. A certificate of
recognition is a document asserting that Chung Tong Yudo has accepted the
credentials provided by the individual named on the certificate and that all
members of the kwon, and its subsidiary organizations, will in turn accept the
credentials of this individual as valid in the grade and for the martial art in
which earned. For many, if not most, non-Koreans this certificate will be the
first Korean military art rank certificate they will have received, which is
actually valid in the Republic of Korea.
b. The standard fee for award of the rank certificate being
granted will be noted in the letter sent to the individual (through
International Yudo Federation) indicating either that the credentials provided
will be accepted or that additional information is required.
c. The fees required by Chung Tong Yudo are not
insignificant, but they are quite moderate compared to some Korean kwons. Please
bear in mind that at the higher dan grades in Korea, the applicant is not
expected to pay the the promotion fee out of pocket. An event is customarily
held on behalf of the applicant to raise the funds for the fee. If an applicant
for a high dan grade cannot draw enough people to an event in his or her honor
to pay for the promotion fee, it tends to indicate that the individual is not
well-respected. Such a lack of respect by fellow practitioners is looked upon
quite seriously by the promotion board.
d. The certificate, when issued, is a Korean military art
certificate. It is in the Korean language. It you desire a translation of your
certificate, you will need to have it done locally. The international Yudo
Federation will provide you a translation of the certificate in English, for a
small fee.
e. The certificate remains the property of Chung Tong Yudo.
If you engage in any actions to dishonor yourself or to bring disrepute to the
military arts, Chung Tong Yudo reserves the right to demand the return of your
rank certificate. |
